A first in Germany:
The use of acid-resistant concrete at the biogas system in Reupelsdorf

August 2009: After the company Firma SBB Beutler & Lang erected the 1st round tank using SVB concrete in 2001, SBB was again a pioneer with a first in Germany.

In cooperation with SCHWENK cement works, BASF and the LZR concrete plant, SBB installed cid-resistant concrete of the grade C 60/75 XC 4 / XD 3 / XA 3 / XF 2 / XM 2, 0 - 16, F 4/5 in a biogas system for the first time. This idea was discussed in winter 2007/2008 by the participating companies and the building materials laboratory Pfeuffer. First of all sample prisms were fitted into the gas domes of a productive biogas system after which they were analysed in a laboratory.

In Spring 2009 those involved jointly agreed to tackle their first project and to install the acid-resistant concrete under building site conditions and to gather important insights.

With a concrete recipe that was tuned to the project and the warm seasonal temperatures. the project went into operation on 27.08.2009: On this day, in temperatures of 36°, the base plate of the SWB tanks was concreted in and a day later the monolithic ring wall was created using the same recipe. The patented and through-tie-free formwork system from SBB Beutler & Lang was used here. When the formwork of the walls was removed on the next day it was apparent that the wall was completely tight without any blowholes anywhere.

Applying the concrete on the ceiling was then a matter or course and all participants could look proudly on the result of this premiere; the first hurdle had been taken!

We would like to take this opportunity to express our special thanks to the owners of the biogas system in Reupelsdorf, Mr Löb and Mr Röll-Bieber for allowing us to carry out this pilot project on their system.
